i do not know much about how the cleaner-lady hierarchy system used to work in this place, but it pretty much is obsolete now, i'm certain of it. well at least i've concluded this through 15 months of hiring my cleaner-lady, who, with time has started to reveal her true colours.
initially she was a decent worker - she'd show up on time, carry out her cleaning work fairly well without being fussy or annoying, without trying to intrude into my personal life and details (something i'm pretty grateful for actually) and most importantly, she was consistent.
initially she would show up after my classes are done with, do her thing, and return two days later. eventually she started skipping sessions to her liking, changing her timings - odd hours like 8am on the saturday mornings that i did not have classes (you can imagine how annoying that would have been), during my lunch break on week days - was a bit tight for my schedule but i had to make space for her.
the next thing i know, she tells me that she's been hired for a cleaning job in the labour wards of the hospital. okay, fine. i was actually happy for her, since that was probably considered to be a promotion in the maid world. which is good. being a big fan of success stories, i like to see people move up in life, make a difference, blah blah blah. so it was acceptable.
when she had to work night shifts there i allowed her to come early to clean, and when she couldn't she just wouldn't show even though i'd make space and time and anticipate her arrival on those days.
somewhere along the line we exchange numbers, which makes it so much more convenient because i could confirm her timings by just a call, and no longer did i have to wastefully sacrifice my daily activities. which was a good thing. i could do proper planning, get her cooperation and with that i'd have a day without wasting time waiting for her to show up randomly.
ever since, i've been calling her every 2 days to ask if her highness is going to make a trip to my place for a cleaning session. and if yes, what time. (so that i can somehow adjust my other plans, yoga, etc)
today i've come to realise that maybe i'm not the big boss here, not anymore.
yesterday i called her at noon to confirm if she'd be able to come at 5pm. and she told me. "sorry, now only can coming". and then i said today 5pm, 5.30pm, 6pm? she said.... "tomorrow."
and today i tried several times to get through to find out what time she'd be coming, she ignored all my calls, but later she called me, told me she'd be coming at 6.30. so i had to rush for yoga, made it a short session so that i could make it back in time for her highness to drop by for her session.
she probably let it get to her head, the promotion and all, maybe she's already considered a high class high rank maid so she's all that, and me.. i'm just a nobody medical student.
Yay for your mojo!
